Overview

Summer-Fall 2025, Internship Projects + Post Intern Commission

Through my summer at the Farnsworth, I worked on visuals for three exhibitions, Anne Buckwalter’s Manors, In Focus: Early American Art, and Along The Goose River: Andrew Wyeth’s Secret Subject under the supervision of their creative director, Raphael Baeza. My deliverables ranged from zines to photos to signage and increased my understanding of brand strategy, marketing, and production.

Manors Poster for Farnsworth Art Museum

Manors

Going into this poster, I wanted my design and layout to complement Buckwalter’s aesthetic throughout her work. Looking for recurring themes, I settled on the detailing she put into the wallpapers of her interiors. With this and “iconography” in mind, I created four symbols that represented both the LGBTQ community as a whole and motifs in her work. The zine maintains the wallpaper interior but the cover shifts to a pink repetition of flowers and hearts and features an interactive section for visitors to connect their prior knowledge and what they learned from the poster to the exhibit in front of them.

These four symbols are a rainbow (pride flag), a conjoined male/female symbol (androgyne/transgender people), a brick (Stonewall Riots), and a peach (Marsha P. Johnson’s “Hot Peach” trope). As a final touch, museum labels with golden frames provide the names/backgrounds of each person, while archival tags offer the names of objects.

In Focus: Early American Art

The signage for this exhibition was approached collaboratively in which the creative director and I worked out a logo and layout for the entry sign and section labels. With an enlarged O paired with revolving green lines, it can be perceived as a wide open eye or a magnifying glass. The predominate idea through these designs were consistency and alignment so the information would be visible and easy to digest.

This was my first experience with exhibition design and creating my own high quality mockups. During the planning stage, I checked wall colors with a handheld Pantone sheet, measured out the space needed for vinyl/signage application, and utilized Photoshop to realistically distort and place the visuals on the wall.

Along the Goose River: Andrew Wyeth’s Secret Subject

Sparking into life during the final weeks of my internship, The Wyeth Center reached out to me after seeing my previous photography. They wanted a section panel explaining the significance and uniqueness of the area alongside his work. It began with a heavier focus on what he painted and a gallery of images but evolved with the feedback and guidance of Raphael into a breakdown of the current status today, environment, and overview of each photographer’s work.
