Process + Results

Going into this poster, I wanted my design and layout to complement Buckwalter’s aesthetic throughout her work. Looking for recurring themes, I settled on the detailing she put into the wallpapers of her interiors. With this and “iconography” in mind, I created four symbols that represented both the LGBTQ community as a whole and motifs in her work. These four symbols are a rainbow (pride flag), a conjoined

male/female symbol (androgyne/transgender people), a brick (Stonewall Riots), and a peach (Marsha P. Johnson’s “Hot Peach” trope). As a final touch, museum labels with golden frames provide the names/backgrounds of each person, while archival tags offer the names of objects.
